The BONJ 2017 Summer Music Festival opens Sunday August 6 at 3:00 PM with a special concert performance of Giacomo Puccini's beloved opera La Boheme. Starring Kevin Peters, Timothy Maureen Cole, Don Kalbach, Aiden Kim, Alan Smulen, and Seungehee Cha in an intimate production, Maestro Butts expressed "This is one of the most exciting opera performances we've included at our festival." The performance will be at Dolan Hall, The Annunciation Center, The College of Saint Elizabeth, Morristown, New Jersey.
The popular BONJ Summer Cabaret will be Saturday evening August 12 at Grace Church, Madison, New Jersey at 7:30 PM. Returning with a mix of Broadway and opera selections will be sopranos Timothy Maureen Cole and Liza Marie Johnston and baritone Don Sheasley. Making their cabaret debuts will be tenor Kevin Peters and soprano Ann Urbanowitz The pianist will be Christine Ciufredda.
A special part of the festival has always been the Chamber Music Celebration - this year to be held on Sunday August 13 at 3:00 PM at Grace Church. The program is still being finalized but a not-to-miss selection will be Ludwig van Beethoven's Serenade, a rarely heard gem by the composer performed by Laura Ferraro, Agnes Kwasniewska, and Heather Faust.
The festival concludes Sunday August 20 at 3:00 PM at Dolan Hall, The College of Saint Elizabeth. Violinist Alyssa Kim, winner of the 2017 Pearl & Julius Young Music Competition, will perform the first movement of Jean Sibelius's powerful Violin Concerto. The featured orchestra selection will be Mozart's expressive Symphony #40. Also on the program are selections by Georg Phillip Telemann and Johann Hummel.
Dr. Anne Matlack will present a series of keyboard recitals at Grace Church Monday-Friday August 7-11 at 12:15. These are donation events and a nice lunch is available following the recitals. Keyboard programs include Anne Matlack (Monday, August 7) performing Bach and Burkhardt, Kevin Davis (Tuesday, August 8) performing Bach Piece d'orgue and Toccata Adagio & Fugure, Jeff Clearman (Wednesday, August 9) performing Pachelbel, Buxtehude, Bach, Evan Currie (Thursday, August 10) performing Bach and Brahms, and Josh Stafford (Friday, August 11) - winner of the Longwood Gardens Organ Competition.
