Maestro Butts receives Morris County Tourism Appreciation Award
On Thursday evening, November 10, 2016, Maestro Robert W. Butts was honored to receive the 2016 Morris County Tourism Award. Executive Director Leslie Bensley opened the evening with a wonderful talk of all that is happening in Morris County - including the art provided by Maestro Butts with The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey.
Many friends, colleagues, and professional associates gathered to celebrate the historical and cultural activities in Morris County and to join in celebrating the award. A special guest was Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen - the 2015 recipient of the award. Also in attendance were members of Morris Arts, MACA, The Morristown National Historical Park, The Washington Association, Morristowngreen.com, The Morris County Chamber of Commerce, and other distinguished organizations.
"It is a special honor and award." Meastro Butts stated. "It is important for all to collaborate and work together. One of the things I'm most proud of for me and for The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey is our history of working together with other arts, cultural, social, and historic organizations throughout Morris County and New Jersey."
Many past and present members of The Baroque Orchestra Board of Directors were there to celebrate the milestone achievement - coinciding with the orchestra's own 20th Anniversary. These included President Jo Ann Bates, Vice President Lisa Young, members Doug Anderson and former board members Anthony Shashaty, Tom Loughman, and Jude Pfister as well as long time friends and supporters Judith Tiernan, Stephen Young, Miriam Pfister, and Janice and Peter Stevens. Lee Doswell, President of Music For Faith representing Vatican composer Marco Frisina was also there. A spcial thank you also to pianist John Pivarnik whose playing opened the festive occasion. John has also been soloist and accompanist on many BONJ performances. Other friends and professional colleagues who shared the event were Tom Ross, Tom Werder, Lynn Siebert, Ellwood “Woody” Kerkeslager, Deborah Farrar Starker, Philip W. Gaffney, and Kevin Coughlin.
"Working with Morris County Tourism has been one of the great pleasures for me and for the orchestra." continued Maestro Butts. "Leslie Bensley and her amazing group have done so much for Morris County and it has been wonderful to be part of it - starting 16 years ago with the Lafayette Celebration at the Cross Estate."
