BONJ Going Forward
2024 Annual Appeal

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We believe beauty begins at the Baroque Orchestra concerts. We concluded the 2023-24 season gloriously with “A Suite, A Serenade, A Symphony” as audiences bathed in the beauty of Beethoven, Holst, and Dvořák.

Our recently announced 2024-25 season opens with a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini. BONJ singers will share the beauty of his arias and scenes. The concert's second half will feature Brahms' exquisite Symphony #2. We are delighted that this new season starts a collaborative relationship with The Morris Museum as we perform at the Bickford Theater. Enclosed is a brochure with more information about the new season

In addition, we are introducing the Diversity of Beauty series which presents concerts that reflect the creativity of famous and less well-known composers from the 17th through 21st centuries. These concerts bring the beauty of music to you—at your selected venue. Stay tuned for more information.

Today, we invite you to join us in making beautiful music by contributing to our annual drive. Just complete the enclosed donation form or contribute online. You can further increase the value of your donation if you work for a company that has a matching gift program. Since we operate with minimal overhead, you can contribute knowing that 90% of your donation is going to keeping music alive.

To those of you who are past supporters, we say thank you and ask for your continued backing. If you enjoy BONJ but have not taken the leap to become a supporter, now is the perfect time to ensure that the beautiful music plays on. Thank you for your consideration.

We look to the year ahead

  • November 17, 2024: Puccini and Brahms: Giacomo Puccini is perhaps the most beloved of all opera composers. We celebrate his beautiful melodies and unforgettable characters on the 100th anniversary of his death. We welcome soloists like soprano Theresa Carlomagno, who recently made her debut in Verona and Athens, as well as other BONJ singers. The 2nd half will feature Johannes Brahms's magnificent Symphony #2. This concert begins our collaboration with the Bickford Theater at the Morris Museum

  • January 19, 2025: Warming Winter: For our annual January concert we return to Grace Episcopal Church in Madison for a concert of familiar names but less heard musical masterpieces. Internationally acclaimed pianist Michael Bulychev-Okser and violinist Miriam Davis will perform Felix Mendelssohn's dynamic Concerto for Piano, Violin and Orchestra. Jane Rondin, BONJ principal horn, will be soloist for the enchanting Artek by American composer Alan Hovhaness.

  • April 27, 2025: Mozart and Tchaikovsky: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony #38, “The Prague” was composed to celebrate Mozart's success in the Czech capital. Petr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony #6The Pathetique” was his last work, setting a new standard for the symphonic form. Tchaikovsky often said his favorite composer was Mozart, so we've combined 2 of their most popular symphonies for one exciting concert.

  • June 22, 2025: Beethoven and Haydn: Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Joseph Haydn had a musical and personal relationship from 1890-1907 when Haydn died. Haydn was internationally renowned as perhaps the greatest symphonist, having composed twelve symphonies for his travels to England. His Symphony #101, “The Clock” has remained popular, its title coming from the tick-tock rhythms of the second movement. Beethoven's first orchestral works were concertos, Pianist Jacqueline Schiller joins the orchestra for our season finale at Grace Church.

  • Community Collaboration: Musicians of the orchestra will perform at the Madison Community Arts Center on Friday/Saturday November 29/30 as part of the MACA Holiday Arts Festival. Visit our website often for information on additional concerts throughout the area.
