On Aprl 3, 2022, The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey Spring Concert will feature Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart''s Piano Concerto #23. The concert will be at Dolan Hall, Saint Elizsbeth University, 2 Convent Road, Morristown, New Jersey at 2:00 PM.
This concerto is special to both piano socloist John Pivarnik and to conductor Robert W. Butts.
"It was the first concerto I studied," Maestro Pivarnik mentioned. "I started working on it in my junior undergrad year and had the good fortune to get a coaching session on it with Leon Fleiser. I later did more intense study at Temple University with Marian Filar. It''s been near and dear to my heart for 50 years. I still marvel at Mozart''s mastery of the concerto form. He wrote this concerto and the C minor concerto in a single month!"
''"Mozart''s concert was the first major concerto I ever conducted in Europe," Maestro Butts said with a smile. "It was December 1999 in Botosani, Romania. The pianist was internationally acclaimed Romanian artist Nicoleta Luca-Meițoiu. The concerto opened doors for me for later concerts in Romania, including an unfortgettalbe performance with Maestro Luca-Meițoiu of the first piano concerto of Johannes Brahms which we performed together in Râmnicu Vâlcea in Romania."
