In September 2023, Maestro Robert W. Butts took a Danube River Cruise with AmaWaterways. While on the river, he visited several venues associated with music he's conducted with The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey. The first stop was Budapest, Hungary.
"It was beautiful and exciting in every way," Maestro Butts exclaimed. "I really liked finding places associated with my favoriote composers and works I've conducted.
"In June 2023, I conducted Gustav Mahler's Symphony #1 with the orchestra, then learned he'd premiered the symphony at the Vigadó Concert Hall in Budapest. Unfortunately, the hall wasn't open, but I was still moved to know I was there, on the Danube River, standing outside the hall where the work was first heard."
